PCP became India’s 1st committee to get Cash Incentives for Physically- challenged Punjab athletes from Government Just after 3 months from the formation of the committee in April 2006 Paralympic committee of Punjab became India’s first committee to get the cash incentives for the Physically- challenged Punjab Athletes from the Punjab government in August 2006. On the recommendations of the PCP the state government has added cash awards for the physically challenged players in their sports policy. The physically challenged athletes winning gold, silver and bronze at the international level will be awarded Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs1 lakh, respectively. This move of the PCP will definitely in courage physically challenged athletes to pursue the sports more seriously. Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award for Disabled players from year 2007 PCP recommended its 2 players for the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award in 2006 but the state government refused to give the deserving players this award. The sports ministry and sports department in the reply said that there is no provision to give this award to the disabled players. So after constant meetings with the sports ministry and the sports department it was decided by the government to make provisions to give this award to the disabled sportspersons of Punjab from year 2007. Now the disabled athletes who will be winning medals in the national and international events will be awarded Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award worth 1 lakh every year. Arjuna Award for Rajinder singh in 2006 The Punjab government in 2006 did not consider Rajinder Singh eligible for the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award in 2006.His pleas to the sports department for the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award fell on deaf years despite winning a bronze medal in the power lifting in Para-Olympics in Athens in 2004. But the PCP recommended his name for the Arjuna Award and he bagged the most prestigious sports award in the country
